1. What is Legal Process Outsourcing?

Legal Process Outsourcing (LPO) is the industry where in-house legal departments or organizations outsource legal work from areas where it is costly to perform, like the U.S. or Europe to places where it can be done at a significantly lower cost, primarily India.

2. How big is the LPO industry?

The market of LPOs is booming. The global market for legal services stands at $250 billion. The global LPO market is likely to grow to between $200-250 billion by 2010.

In India, the value of the LPO industry is estimated at $145 million per year. This industry is likely to generate over 80,000 jobs in the next eight years. By 2010, India is likely to achieve a significant growth by doubling its share to 6-7% in the $250-billion global LPO market.

3. What are the employment opportunities available in the LPO industry?

The legal profession is witnessing a major shift with legal professionals focusing on legal outsourcing as an alternate career as compared to the traditional way of practicing law. 6. What are the salaries offered in this field?

In India, the salary depends on the kind of experience and training possessed by a person or a legal professional. For a fresher with training, it starts from Rs. 15,000 onwards. However, for experienced attorneys it can be as high as Rs. 70,000 for quality check, high level legal writing and research.

A fresh Indian law graduate can be employed for Rs. 25,000 ($555) per month while his U.S. counterpart can earn at least $5,000 per month for the same work or position.
