Critical Skills Required to be Successful in LPO

The LPO industry is growing at a phenomenal pace, providing concrete career opportunities for the law graduates of the country. India is an ideal destination for LPO services with its low costs and the large trained talent pool available.

The basic skills required by the person in this field are:


Command over language

An LPO writer has to be well versed in English. Currently, 80% of all LPO work comes from the U.S. so knowing American English, drafting and research methodology are essential.


Adequate computer language

Basic computer knowledge and know how of MS Office/Adobe software are essential.

Exposure to international laws and legal practices

An LPO writer should have exposure to laws across various countries since International laws, interpretation of those laws, the legal environment and the legal systems/civil procedure is different across countries.


Specific technical skills

A large part of the LPO work is done by non-lawyers. For e.g., there is a huge demand for engineers in the intellectual property rights for doing patent work. They go through the patent applications to analyze scientific and technological inventions to craft legal protection framework for the same. This work needs to be done by professionals with specific technological skills and experience.

Exposure to corporate work culture

LPOs and KPO firms call for a very high standard with respect to writing, corporate communication, project management, organization and working in a deadline oriented environment.
